Technology and traffic

By Head Fred • Mar 22nd, 2008 • Category: featured story

Fredericksburg and surrounding jurisdictions could take a page in the technology department from nearby neighbors. First, I second Bryan’s call for emergency service detectors on all traffic lights in the city - heck, in both counties as well. Lights ahead of an emergency vehicle turn to green, allowing faster emergency response. I know Henrico has them and they seem to work well. Seeing a fire truck fight its way towards an accident Friday reinforced that view.

Spring is here… and you know what that means

By Head Fred • Mar 13th, 2008 • Category: featured story

On my way to City Council Tuesday night, I took this picture of a blooming tree off Kenmore Ave. Both the tree and the meeting reminded me that City politics will definitely be interesting this spring.

Some things to ponder:

What’s next for Cobblestone Square, Mr. Mayor?

By Head Fred • Mar 9th, 2008 • Category: featured story

Today, the Free Lance-Star published Emily Battle’s article about Cobblestone Square reverting the remainder of condos to apartments.
Two questions still need to be answered.  1.  Will condo fees, which are pretty high, go down to reflect the severely diminished scope of the Condominium project?  2.  What is the reaction of City officials?

Cobblestone Square Condos to turn into apartments

By Head Fred • Mar 1st, 2008 • Category: featured story

In a letter dated 2/27/08, residents of the first two buildings at Cobblestone Square Condos were notified that the rest of the development is to be turned into “luxury apartments”.

Verizon FiOS in Fredericksburg - love it or hate it?

By Head Fred • Feb 15th, 2008 • Category: featured story

When my wife and I moved into our condo over at Cobblestone Square back in June, FiOS wasn’t quite ready. Unable to install our beloved Dish Network, we settled with Cox. From what I’ve read in the FLS and other places, what should be a great boon for the City may be a bust. This is a selfish post - is it worth the hassle?

Lessons learned from another historic downtown

By Head Fred • Feb 4th, 2008 • Category: featured story

This past weekend my wife and I went to visit one of her old friends in Chambersburg, PA, a mere 2.5 hours away from Fredericksburg. Her and her husband were really psyched about something their town did each year: IceFest. Each year downtown businesses sponsor an ice sculpture, which are then made and placed throughout downtown.

As Kalahari dominates, downtown progress marches on

By Head Fred • Jan 23rd, 2008 • Category: featured story

The dominant discussion in the City, combined with the cold weather, may have prevented some folks from recognizing what’s going on downtown. Here’s a sum-up of what’s happening so far in 2008 downtown:

Does Kalahari Measure Up?

By Head Fred • Jan 8th, 2008 • Category: featured story

The city posted the letter of intent between itself and Kalahari today. An array of incentives for both the city and Kalahari Waterparks are listed. Click below the fold for a link to the PDF and a rundown of what’s what.
